Black Walnut Cake

Ingredients

  • 2 cup flour
  • 2 count eggs
  • 2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup butter or margarine
  • 4 tablespoon cocoa powder
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup walnuts black
  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine
  • 4 tablespoon cocoa powder
  • 6 tablespoon buttermilk
  • 16 ounce sugar Confectioners
  • 1/2 cup walnuts black

Directions

    1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
    2. To prepare cake: Combine flour, sugar, baking soda and salt; sift together into a large mixing bowl. Melt butter or margarine in a saucepan; add cocoa powder and water and bring to a boil. Pour hot liquid over flour mixture and blend thoroughly. Add buttermilk, eggs and black walnuts; mix well. Pour batter into a 15x11-inch jelly-roll pan with sides.
    3. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes. Remove from oven and spread chocolate walnut icing over hot cake.
    4. To prepare Chocolate Walnut Icing: Melt butter or margarine in a saucepan; add cocoa powder and buttermilk and bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and fold in confectioners sugar and walnuts.
