Grandmothers Cobbler

  • 1 cup berries reserved juice from or cold water
  • 1 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter or margarine
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 3 cup berries


    1. Grease an 8-inch cake pan; set aside.
    2. Cream 1/2 cup sugar and butter or margarine until fluffy. Sift flour; then measure. Combine flour with baking powder and salt; then sift again. Add dry ingredients alternately with milk to creamed mixture, beating just until smooth. Pour batter into prepared pan. Sprinkle remaining 1 cup sugar evenly over fruit; then pour water evenly over top.
    3. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes. The batter will puff up through the fruit as it bakes. Serve warm with ice cream or cream, if desired.
