Buttermilk Brownies

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter or margarine
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/3 cup cocoa powder
  • 2 cup flour
  • 2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/4 cup butter or margarine
  • 3 tablespoon cocoa powder
  • 2 1/4 cup sugar Confectioners
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 cup walnuts
  • 2 count eggs

Directions

    1. Grease a 15 1/2 x 10 1/2 inch pan; set aside. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
    2. To prepare Brownies: In a saucepan, combine butter or margarine, water and cocoa powder; bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Remove pan from heat. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking soda and salt; stir together. Add eggs, buttermilk and vanilla; stir to mix. Add chocolate mixture, mixing until well blended. Pour batter into prepared pan.
    3. Bake at 375 degrees for 30 minutes. Remove from oven and immediately pour Cocoa-Buttermilk Frosting over brownies, spreading evenly.
    4. Cool and cut into bars.
    5. To prepare Cocoa Buttermilk Frosting: In a saucepan, combine butter or margarine, buttermilk and cocoa powder; bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Remove pan from heat. Add confectioners sugar, vanilla and walnuts, if desired; beat until well blended.
