  • 3/4 cup flour
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 count egg
  • 4 count white or yellow onions
  • 1 tablespoon canola oil

    1. For batter, in a mixing bowl combine flour, milk, egg, oil and salt. Using a rotary beater or whisk, beat just until smooth.
    2. In a large skillet heat 1 inch cooking oil or melted shortening for deep-fat frying to 365 degrees.
    3. Meanwhile, cut 4 medium-size mild yellow or white onions into 1/4inch slices; separate into rings.
    4. Using a fork, dip onion rings into batter; drain off excess batter.
    5. Fry onion rings, a few at a time, in a single layer in hot oil 2 to 3 minutes or until golden, stirring once or twice with a fork to separate rings.
    6. Remove rings from oil; drain on paper towels.
