French Onion Soup

  • Cook Time: 180 minutes
  • Servings: 8 servings


  • 2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 quart beef broth
  • 3/4 cup flour
  • 1 cup wine white
  • 2 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 count bay leaf
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon ground pepper
  • 3 pound onions
  • 4 ounce butter


    1. Slice onions, thinly and slowly saute them in the 4 oz. of butter for 1 1/2 hours in a large soup pot.
    2. Add all the remaining ingredients except the beef bouillon, saute over low heat for 10 minutes.
    3. Add bouillon and simmer for 2 hours. Add salt to taste
    4. Store in refrigerator overnight.
    5. For a unique way to serve this, fill a glass baking dish with the soup and cover with thick slices of french bread. Sprinkle swiss cheese on top and broil for 5 minutes at 550 degrees.
