Beer Batter Fish

Note: Fresh or frozen fish fillets can be used. Thaw fish if frozen before preparing.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cup flour
  • 2 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 pound fish fillets
  • 1 count vegetable oil
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2/3 cup beer
  • 3/8 cup lemon juice

Directions

    1. In a small bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt and baking soda; mix well. Measure 1/2 cup flour mixture; set remaining mixture aside.
    2. Pat fish dry with paper towels. Coat fish with the 1/2 cup flour mixture. Add beer and lemon juice to remaining flour mixture; blend well. Dip floured fish into batter to coat completely.
    3. Heat oil to 375 degrees for deep fat frying. CAREFULLY place batter-coated fish in hot oil and cook until fish is golden brown (about 5 to 7 minutes). Remove from oil and drain on paper towels. Serve immediately. Refrigerate any leftovers.
