Beef Broccoli Stir-Fry

  • 4 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 teaspoon ginger root
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 pound broccoli
  • 1 cup water
  • 3 tablespoon oil peanut
  • 1 count carrot
  • 1 count onion
  • 1/2 pound tender boneless beef steak


    1. Cut beef across the grain into thin slices.
    2. Mince garlic and ginger root.
    3. In a mixing bowl, combine 1 tablespoon soy sauce and 1 tablespoon cornstarch; mix in sesame oil, ginger root, garlic and sugar.
    4. Add beef to soy-sauce mixture and stir to coat. Let stand for 15 minutes.
    5. Meanwhile, separate broccoli into bit-size flowerets; trim stalks and cut crosswise into 1/8 inch slices. Cut carrot diagonally into 1/8 slices. Cut onion into chunks and seperate.
    6. In a small bowl or cup, combine remaining 3 tablespoons soy sauce, 1 tablespoon cornstarch, and water; set aside.
    7. Place 1 tablespoon oil in a wok or large skillet over high heat. Add meat and stir fry for 1 minute. Place cooked meat in a bowl and keep warm.
    8. Heat remaining oil in the same wok or skillet. Add broccoli, carrot and onion to wok or skillet; stir-fry until vegetables are tender-crisp (about 4 minutes).
    9. Add meat and soy sauce mixture; bring to a boil and cook, stirring constantly, until sauce thickens.
    10. Serve immediately over hot rice.
