Saucy Salisbury Steak

  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs
  • 2 small onions
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 1/2 pound ground chuck
  • 1 can mushroom gravy
  • 1 count egg
  • 1 tablespoon butter or margarine


    1. Chop 1 onion and saute until tender in oil.
    2. In a large bowl, combine sauteed onion, ground chuck, 1/3 cup gravy, bread crumbs and egg; mix well. Form mixture into six "steaks."
    3. Slice other onion and in a separate pan, saute sliced onion in butter or margarine until tender; add remaining gravy and heat until bubbly.
    4. In a large frying pan, cook steaks to desired doneness, turning once. Spoon onion gravy over steaks before serving.
