Cranberry Orange Scones

Use very cold butter


  • 2 cup flour
  • 1 cup cranberries dried
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 2/3 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tablespoon milk


    1. Combine dry ingredients plus the orange zest; cut in butter with a pastry blender until mixture is crumbly. Add buttermilk and dried cranberries, stirring just until moistened.
    2. Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface; knead 5 or 6 times. Pat into an 8 inch square, and cut into 8 wedges.
    3. Place one inch apart on a lightly greased baking sheet.
    4. Brush tops with milk and sprinkle with sugar.
    5. Bake at 425 degrees for 15 minutes or until scones are light golden brown.
