Apple Dumplings

  • 3/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 6 medium apples peeled, cored
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 cup water
  • 2 count pie crusts


    1. Roll out pastry 1/8" thick and cut into 6 squares.
    2. Place apple in center of pastry square and fill cavities with a mixture of 1/2 cup sugar, 1/2 tsp. cinnamon and dot of butter.
    3. Bring opposite points of pastry up over apple and overlap, moisten and seal.
    4. Carefully lift the apple and place in a 9x13 baking dish. Place apples a little apart.
    5. Hot syrup: Combine 1 cup sugar, 2 cups water, 3 tbs. butter and 1/4 tsp. cinnamon in a saucepan, bring to a boil for 3 minutes.
    6. Make hot syrup and pour around dumplings.
    7. Bake dumplings for 40 minutes in a 425 degree oven. Crust should be nicely browned.
    8. Baste with sauce and bake 5 more minutes. Let set in pan. Serve warm with ice cream.
