Apple Pie

  • Prep Time: 15 minutes
  • Cook Time: 60 minutes
  • Ready Time: 1 Hour, 15 Min
  • Servings: 8 servings

  • 1/8 teaspoon ground clove optional
  • 1 cup Crisco shortening
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 1/4 cup flour
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 6 large apples Granny Smith

    1. Peel, core, and slice apples. Add cinnamon, clove (optional), 2 T. flour, and sugar and toss gently; set aside.
    2. Prepare water with ice and set aside. Combine 2 c. flour and salt. Add Crisco and cut it into the flour and salt. Add the water a little at a time until it can be formed into a ball (do not let the ice get into the dough).
    3. Divide the dough in half. Try not to handle it too much. Roll out a circle of dough that cover the bottom of your pie pan. Add the apples to the dough lined pie pan. Drizzle the butter over the top.
    4. Roll out the second crust for the top. Cover the pie and seal the edges, pinching every half inch or so.
    5. Bake for 15 minutes on 425 degrees. Turn oven down to 350 and continue baking for 45 minutes more. If pie begins to brown, tent with foil during the last 15 minutes.
Remember, the secret to good pie crust is keeping the crust cold and placing it in a hot oven.  So make sure you preheat the oven before rolling out the pie dough.  If you forget store the pie in the fridge till you're oven is 425 degrees.
