  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup oil
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 cup warm water or milk
  • 7 cup bread flour
  • 2 package yeast dry active


    1. In a large bowl combine yeast and warm water (about 105 degrees). Let stand about 3 minutes and add salt and sugar.
    2. Add 3 cups of flour and mix well. Add oil and beaten egg and mix well. Add 3 more cups of flour working it into the dough. You may or may not need the other cup of flour, continue to sprinkle with flour until the dough is slightly sticky.
    3. Wet a clean dish towel and wring it out. Cover the bowl of dough with the towel. Put the bowl in the refrigerator and let stand overnight.
    4. When the dough is doubled in size braid it by dividing it into 2 parts. Divide each part into 3 sections and braid it;making two loaves. Pinching the ends together. Place on greased cookie sheet and cover. Let rise in warm place until doubles in size.
    5. Bake in 375 degree oven for 35 minutes or until golden brown. Brush with butter and cool on wire rack.
