Whole Wheat Bread

  • Prep Time: 120 minutes
  • Cook Time: 30 minutes
  • Servings: 10 servings

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 tablespoon honey
  • 1 package yeast dry
  • 2 cup milk
  • 2 cup flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup oatmeal
  • 2 1/2 cup whole wheat flour

    1. Warm milk in a small saucepan to 100 degrees (lukewarm). Sprinkle yeast over milk and let stand about 5 minutes. Add honey (or sugar) and set aside.
    2. Whisk dry ingredients together. Set aside. Combine liquids. Add liquid to dry ingredients and stir until dough forms. Turn dough onto floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic, 8-10 minutes. Add a little flour if dough is too sticky to knead.
    3. Oil a large bowl and place dough into it coating all sides with the oil. Let rise in a warm place until double, about 50 minutes. Grease two loaf pans.
    4. When dough has risen, turn out onto floured surface and work the air out of it. Use a knife to divide dough in half. Let the dough rest for about 10 minutes. Then form loaves and place into greased pans. Cover with a damp cloth and let rise again until double, about 45 minutes.
    5. Bake bread at 350 degrees for about 25-30 minutes until done. Cool in pans for 5 minutes and then remove and let cool on a wire rack.
